Should a Sump Pump have an Airtight Lid?

Friday, June 6th, 2014 by Jessie Schoepflin

Absolutely yes! Airtight sump pumps! Sump pumps should be installed with an airtight lid. As water drains into the pump, holes in the lid can allow that water to evaporate back into the air in your basement! But we were trying to get rid of that water!

Exposed pumps are also subject to debris falling into and clogging the sump pump and sump pit. We don't want anything to inhibit the functionality of the pump.

And the final benefit of an airtight lid, aesthetics! An open pit is just not fun to look at. Invest in a system that is guaranteed to work, be functional and look great.
