Foundation in the dictionary is defined as "the basis or groundwork of anything." So in the most basic of terms the foundation is what the home is built on. In most cases, there is a footer on which the foundation wall/basement wall is built on. A concrete basement floor is then poured. These components make up the foundation of a home.
Structural concerns such as cracked or bowing foundation walls and sinking or settling affect the stability and function of the foundation of a home and can and should be addressed as soon as possible to prevent more damage from affecting the entire home.
