Water sitting next to the foundation of a home can cause issues such as structural failure and water leaks. As soil gets wet, it expands, and as the soil expands it begins to push against the foundation walls. This pressure can cause cracking and create paths for ground water penetration. To avoid water sitting next to the foundation, it is a good idea to make sure downspouts are properly installed. It is recommended that downspouts are run at least 8 feet away from the foundation walls so that the water runs away from the home and does not accumulate around the foundation walls.

Complete Basement Systems offers several different options for downspouts such as the YardWell and the downspout extension. The YardWell is attached to the end of a buried discharge pipe to allow rainwater to to discharge into the lawn while camouflaging the end of the pipe. The downspout extension is recessed into the ground to carry water away from the home but also allows lawnmowers to be run over top.
